Simple practices to incorporate gratitude in your life

Whether you are new to manifestation and the law of attraction or a connoisseur, the one ingredient that is a must for manifestation is gratitude. The very basis of the law of attraction is that like attracts like so when we focus on things we are grateful for, we are automatically building a bridge for more of our desires to come to us in a quicker way than ever possible. According to me, that is only a bonus, the attitude of gratitude is one that will make you feel so happy with your life the way it is currently, that in itself is the true gift that it is.

Why should you incorporate a daily practice of gratitude in your life?

Gratitude is a great multiplier. It multiplies what you are grateful for. So for eg. If you are grateful for the money you already have, guess what? You will have more. That’s the way it works. If you are grateful for your current relationships, you will have more wonderful relationships to be grateful for. If you are grateful for you health, your body will reciprocate by making you healthier, more energetic, more active. Being grateful makes you a happy person and that itself is a big motivator. If you focus deeply on why you do what you do, you will realise that at the root of it all, it is because you wish to be happy. I invite you to try it for yourself and not just take my word for it.

The dictionary meaning of gratitude is “the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness”. It is as simple as that and easier said than done, right? Well, to be honest it is easier and way more effective done than just said. Below are a few ways in which you can incorporate this magic ingredient in your daily mental diet and have spectacular results.

  1. Gratitude lists

“Count your blessings” is a very popular phrase I have grown up hearing. The habit of creating gratitude lists is one of the best habits you can have. I remember when I started learning the magic of gratitude, I used every single opportunity available to create lists. I have gratitude lists everywhere – on my cellphone, in my email, sticky notes on my laptop, even on the back of bus tickets. Try it – it is a guaranteed way to get into a good frame of mind anytime anywhere, even if you count your blessings on your fingertips and whether your list is 2 or 200 or even 2000 items long.

2. Gratitude journal

This is one of the very best habits that you can develop. Maintaining a gratitude journal and updating it once a day, preferably in the morning but it could also be before you go to bed at night. No matter when you do it, keeping a seperate book where you only write about the things that you are thankful for daily and reading it when you feel low is a priceless gift to yourself that you will love and cherish for the rest of your life.

3. Gratitude totem

This is my personal favourite and something I created myself. The book The Magic by Rhonda Byrne which talks about the power of gratitude and gives 28 powerful practices to make gratitude a way of life for you talks about the gratitude rock which you keep by your bedside and hold just before you sleep and be grateful for the best thing that happened during the day. The beauty of this practice is that it makes you look back at all the wonderful things that happened during the day and pick the best one but in picking the best, you are automatically being grateful for everything that happened well during the day and setting the stage for a wonderful night followed by a wonderful day. Isn’t that just awesome? Instead of the gratitude rock, you could use a totem, which could be a crystal, a figurine, a picture of yourself or someone you love, anything which means a lot to you and which makes you amplify the act of being grateful.

4. Gratitude Jar

There is a message that floats around on social media at the start of every year which says keep a jar containing notes of things you are grateful for and add atleast one thing to it daily. At the end of the year, you will look back and see 365 amazing things that happened in the previous year and guess what? You set the stage for an amazing year ahead by just opening the jar at the end of the year and going through the notes.
